I have a friend that is not too well and feeling the cold so decided to make her a snuggle rug. I particularly like this ‘Quilt as you go’ pattern and love the finish and feel of this quilt. I have made several king size quilts in this style for family members. This is a great way of using up those small pieces of fabric from your stash. The great part of this design once the blocks are joined that’s it all done other than the binding. I made my son and his wife a quilt in this design a few years ago and had enough scraps in my stash to complete my friends quilt which is great, so many times they nearly got thrown out. Today I found a great tutorial on how to make these blocks. Gourmetquilter “How to make a quilt as you go block with strips – Quilting tips. SusanClaire Mayfield has a number of very detailed tutorials. For my quilt I have made 8 1/2 inch squares, only because I had a number of pieces of wadding already cut. I have used a burgundy floral for the backing and various fabrics in light and dark tones for the top. I have used the same fabric for the sashing on the back and one of the lighter fabrics for the top. This quilt will be 5 blocks across and 8 down = 40 blocks which will make a good sized snuggle rug for my friend. I am hoping to complete it today so off to get the chores done and into the quilting. Have a great day. Happy quilting. To see other works in progress please visit Freshly Pieced WIP
Quilt as you go is finished yippee!! I was able to get it finished in time for my friends visit last week. It was an early birthday present and she loved it which is great. I can now picture her lying on the couch snuggled up and watching the telly or all snuggled in bed and not worry about her being cold. My son saw it finished and loved it, he loves the design and the colours. He said theirs, which they have had on their bed for a few years now, is still his most favourite quilt. This is a great compliment. I love to hear that my quilts are enjoyed and being used. Happy Quilting.
